   OUR PROFILE

MIC was formed as the commercial vehicle of the Makana Trust, which was born out of an initiative to address the plight of South Africa’s ex-political prisoners.
The Makana Trust’s primary objectives are to benefit ex-political prisoners and their dependents by improving their educational, social, health and economic well-being. The name Makana is attributed to a Xhosa General who led his warriors against the British during the resistance wars and was the first political prisoner to be jailed on Robben Island. At the helm of MIC is former Robben Island inmate, Executive Chairman, Peter-Paul Ngwenya. With interests in media, logistics and the financial services sectors, MIC is mandated to procure lucrative investment opportunities that enable Makana Trust to meet its goals and to contribute to its financial resources. As a BBBEE (Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment) investment vehicle, MIC strives to challenge and effectively meet the needs and expectations of its partners. We do this, taking the greatest care to reflect and pursue the goals of social and economic transformation of South African society.
