Cleaning of Berea Reservoir

Media Statement
Cleaning of Berea Reservoir

Johannesburg Water would like to inform residents of Berea, Hillbrow, and surrounding areas that our teams will be cleaning the Berea Reservoir from 16 -27 November 2020.

The cleaning process will include replacing the Scour valve as well as the ladders. Customers that are getting a feed from the reservoir are advised that this is routine maintenance and  Johannesburg Water is anticipating a minimum impact on supply of services in the area as the reservoir is currently on bypass since  4  November 2020 and there have been no complaints of poor pressure or no water to date.

The Entity has contingency plans in place in terms of water tanks to supply water tanks in case of emergency. Residents are also reminded that the City is still under level 1 water restrictions and we urge all to use water sparingly.

Johannesburg Water will keep customers informed on the process via our social media pages.

Water shortages in Ferndale – 11 November 2020

Water shortages in Ferndale – 11 November 2020

11 November 2020

Media Statement

#Water shortages in Ferndale

On Sunday, 8th November 2020, there was a major burst pipe in Pine street, Ferndale affecting water supply in the area. The burst pipe was repaired and restoration of water commenced early Monday morning.  Another burst pipe occurred in Pretoria street in the Randburg CBD on Monday 9 November 2020 and was repaired by the end of the day. After the water was restored on Monday Johannesburg Water received reports of no water in a couple of streets and currently, the team is onsite investigating and exploring all possibilities of the cause of no water.

The team has traced all the operated valves from Monday and all the zone valves within the system and they are operating as normal. We have now gone back to the  Kensington B reservoir, where we know there is water and Operate the outlet valve (slowly) and see how the system reacts. We would then do fault finding (process of elimination) along the bulk supply line (600mm diameter) with each connection, valve and fire hydrant.

There are currently 5 water tanks placed in the area: Pine x2, Long x1, Basil x1 and St James x1.

We are placing additional tanks: Pine x1, Long x1, West x1 and Dover x2. In total we will have 10 tanks in the affected area.

There is currently no estimated time of restoration.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused and residents can follow updates from our social media pages.
