Johannesburg Water implemented water restrictions by between 20 – 45% in the last week to ensure a sustainable supply for all after Rand water informed the utility of water restrictions from their side due to increase in demand. Johannesburg Water has been in contact with the bulk water supplier Rand Water to increase supply for the reservoir to recover much quicker as a result of high demand in the area.
We plead with all residents of the city of Johannesburg to use water sparingly and residents report all service interruptions through the call centre. The teams are monitoring the reservoir levels and water tankers will be rolled out as and when the need arises per area. All updates will be available on our social media pages and apologies for the inconvenience.

Water Restrictions in the City of Johannesburg- updated
Rand Water has indicated that their distribution network is currently under severe pressure whereby the water demand consistently exceeds the water supply. The water Entity requested Johannesburg Water to implement their water restrictions to prevent a situation where both supply systems collapse and Johannesburg Water has responded by restricting many of its reservoirs by between 20 – 45%.
Some areas fed from the reservoirs below that have been restricted will experience low pressure to no water especially high lying areas and some will not be affected at all. Hursthill reservoir which supplies Coronationville is still battling with capacity and we appeal to all residents to use water sparingly in order to boost the system much quicker. Alternative water supply will be rolled out to areas that get affected due to these restrictions and tanker supply will be rolled out as and when required.
