Johannesburg Water exploring interventions in resolving water supply shortages in Region B & F

Johannesburg Water management together with the MMC for EISD Councillor Mpho Moerane , met for an oversight meeting with councillors affected by the Hursthill reservoir water supply shortages. The JW technical team took the opportunity to explain to the Councillors of the wards of the interventions currently underway in resolving these water challenges.

The entity is aware that currently areas supplied from the reservoir do not have water due to insufficient bulk supply coming in to the reservoir not to meet demand of supply in the area. We are constantly engaging with our bulk water supplier Rand Water to find solutions to the low inflow levels. Rand Water has undertaken to explore a few technical options to try and resolve the problem and improve supply from their side, one of the things that they will be doing is to do maintenance of their reflux valve and to see if we can take it offline. Rand Water will also be confirming cross connections between their and JW systems to see if all the water that is supposed to be coming into the reservoir is coming in.

Water challenges in #Hursthill #Brixton and #Crosby

Johannesburg Water is exploring all possible technical options with our bulk supplier ‘Rand Water’ in resolving challenges with the current water supply to our Hursthill, Brixton and Crosby systems that are caused by below average inflow of water into the system. We have gained commitment from Rand Water to prioritize pumping into JW’s reservoirs in order to meet demand.

The affected reservoirs were able to gain capacity overnight and thus able to supply water to some of the areas affected as well as the hospitals in the area. Some ground was unfortunately lost this morning due to power supply failure and the increase in demand of water supply. JW has placed water tankers at the hospitals to pump into their tankers to sustain operations of the hospitals. Johannesburg Water is still monitoring the water supply to hospitals around the clock.

Alternative water supply in the form of water tankers roaming the affected areas are still available for residence to use.

We apologise to all affected residents for the inconvenience caused.

Johannesburg Water is experiencing water supply challenges into the Hursthill reservoir. Currently the reservoir is sitting at very low levels and not able to meet demand. We are currently engaging with Rand Water , our bulk water supplier to try and mitigate the challenges to get the inflow of water into the reservoir back to above average levels.

SERVICE PROVIDERS WARNED OF PROCUREMENT SCAM

Johannesburg Water (SOC) Ltd warns the public of fake letters of appointment resulting from tender adjudication, we advise for necessary precautions to be taken regarding to this scam to avoid any possible loss or damage. JW will also not request tenderers to provide identity numbers on the appointment letters to service providers.

Please note that these requests are fraudulent and any transactions concluded through these invitations will be at your own risk and Johannesburg Water will not be held accountable.

Letters of appointment from JW will contain the following details:

1. Issued on an official letterhead with both JW and City of Johannesburg logos;
2. A schedule of rates will be attached;
3. A Johannesburg Water official contact number for further queries.

Johannesburg Water urges all prospective service providers to always verify the authenticity of the letter of appointment that they receive through our Supply Chain Management Unit: 011 688 6535.
