Johannesburg Water monitors improved services

14 April 2022

Johannesburg Water was constrained to close water supply to the Brixton Reservoir and Tower yesterday afternoon. This was due to continuous low water supply from Rand Water as well as load shedding.

This compromised water supply in the Crosby, Brixton and Hursthill Reservoir zones. Johannesburg Water managed to recover the Brixton Reservoir this afternoon, to a level that enabled pumping into the Tower zone and water supply continues to stabalise. Once levels fully recovers, we will start opening water supply into the Reservoir zone, with expected full recovery by midnight. The Crosby Reservoir levels are still low but stable, while Hursthill remains critical.

Johannesburg Water endeavors to improve the Hursthill Reservoir during the course of the weekend pending improved supply from Rand Water.

As part of mitigating challenges relating to power failures that has negatively impacted our water supply, Johannesburg Water has placed generators at the Crosby, Brixton and Forest Hill pump stations. The generators will remain on site for a considerable period to ensure that these vulnerable sites are not affected by power failures and load shedding.

Johannesburg Water remains committed in supplying quality service to the residents of the City and apologises to those affected for the inconvenience caused.
