Area outage with no water in Fairlands, Berario and parts of Northcliff
Johannesburg Water would like to inform the customers of a water outage in Fairlands, Berario and parts of Northcliff. The outage started yesterday (19 June 2022) afternoon until today, 20 June 2022. This is due to the vandalism of the telemetry cables and equipment as well as mechanical infrastructure housed at the Fairlands reservoir yesterday.
This left the site unautomated and with no telecoms regarding reservoir levels and flows. The whole incident caused the reservoir level to drop until it was totally empty. The vandalised reservoir supplies the mentioned areas.
The relevant depot was unaware of the incident and was responding to “NO Water” complaints in certain streets. Their investigation was extended when the area with no water grew larger. The depot then extended their search and investigations to PRV’s within the zone, and this later led to the Fairlands reservoir site, where vandalism took place.
It was only then that the reservoir was found to be totally empty, and steps were immediately taken to override the inlet valve and to start filling the reservoir.
Johannesburg Water urges customers to be patient while the system fills up and to use water sparingly.
