Daily water supply system status updates: Monday, 27 February 2023 (Morning)
Water supply status update by exception (i.e., areas affected due to supply constraint and not service interruption from occasional pipe burst).
Unplanned Interruptions
1. Johannesburg Water monitoring infrastructure
Johannesburg Water is monitoring affected systems which were impacted by lower supply from Rand Water’s Meredale and Waterval reservoirs. Customers in lower lying areas are receiving water, while customers in higher lying areas are affected with lower pressure or no water as systems are gradually recovering.
The status of Johannesburg Water infrastructure:
*Commando system:
Both the Hursthill 1 and 2 reservoirs are critically low.
Levels at Brixton reservoir are low but stable with the outlet opened at 50% to sustain capacity. Brixton tower is operating normally.
The outlets of Brixton and Hursthill 2 reservoirs will be isolated at 21h00 this evening.
*Crown Gardens systems:
The reservoir has recovered, and pumps are supplying the tower. The outlet is isolated at 50% to sustain capacity.
Customers are requested to urgently reduce consumption which will significantly assist in the recovery of the affected systems.
Further updates will be provided to customers.
2. No water in the South Hills tower and Alexander Park reservoir zones
Johannesburg Water is aware that there are customers in the high-lying areas of the South Hills tower and Alexander Park reservoir zones who are experiencing poor pressure to no water this morning.
