Update: Orange Farm water outage
Repairs to a damaged 300mm water pipe are still ongoing and there is no estimated time of completion at the moment.
Last week, a 300mm water pipe was damaged while a contractor was installing stormwater culverts in Orange Farm Ext 2.
Following that incident, service providers were invited to the site on Thursday, 27 July and Friday, 28 July under emergency and conducted an assessment on material. It was found that special fittings needed to be fabricated, as the fittings are not standard ones, hence the need for them to be fabricated.
Quotes were received and one service provider was given the green light to fabricate the fittings and have them delivered. The fittings were delivered on Tuesday, 1 July, at about 15:00. Welding team arrived on site and started the repairs on Wednesday, 2 August at about 09:30.
Upon completion of repairs on Wednesday night, 2 August, water was restored. However, it was discovered that the same pipeline had other multiple bursts, caused by the contractor, further upstream from the original site. Furthermore, it was discovered that a sewer pipe which runs alongside the water pipe was also damaged.
As of Thursday morning, 3 August, the teams had to conduct further investigations to determine the exact locations of the multiple bursts.
There is no estimated time for when water will be restored. Johannesburg Water will continue providing alternative water supply via roaming water tankers and stationery tanks.
Further updates will be updated.
