Johannesburg Water systems update

 

RECOVERED/IMPROVED SYSTEMS

 

Midrand & Sandton systems

 

  • Rabie Ridge reservoir

The reservoir is currently low. Customers may experience poor pressure.

 

  • Linden 1 reservoir and tower

The reservoir is supplying normally, while the tower is currently empty.  reservoir recovered slightly during the day and is supplying normally. The tower is expected to improve overnight.

 

  • President Park reservoir and tower

The reservoir is supplying normally while the tower remains on bypass.

 

 

RECOVERING SYSTEMS

 

  • South Hills tower

Pumping into the tower is ongoing and the tower is supplying normally.

 

  • Alexander Park reservoir

The reservoir is critically low due to high demand. The system is being reconfigured to boost the capacity of these reservoirs.

 

  • Berea reservoir

The reservoir remains critically low due to poor incoming supply. The system is being reconfigured to boost the capacity of the reservoir.

 

  • Eagles Nest

Remains critically low due to poor incoming supply. The system has been reconfigured to boost capacity into this reservoir.

 

 

Commando System

  • Brixton reservoir: Critically low due to poor incoming supply. The reservoir outlet will be closed overnight.
  • Brixton tower: Critically low to poor supply from the reservoir.
  • Hursthill 1 and 2 reservoirs: Both reservoirs remain critically low due to poor incoming supply. As a mitigation strategy, interventions are in place to augment Hursthill 1 reservoir. Hursthill 2 outlet will be closed overnight.
  • Crosby reservoir: Remains critically low due to poor incoming supply.

 

NB: The outlets to the following reservoirs will be throttled at 90% from 21:00 to 04:00 to preserve water and build storage for the day:

 

  • Rabie Ridge
  • Diepsloot
  • Crown Gardens
  • Hursthill 2
  • Brixton
  • Chiawelo
  • Naturena
  • Glenvista

 

 

Customers supplied by the reservoirs mentioned above may experience poor pressure to no flow.

 

Alternative water supply has been arranged for the affected areas.
