Systems Update

Update on Rand Water Palmiet Pump Station maintenance

With the completion of the second phase of the Rand Water Palmiet Pump Station maintenance, pumping is at full capacity. Johannesburg Water continues to monitor the systems and is implementing necessary interventions to facilitate the recovery process and ensure equitable distribution.

The following systems are improving but affected by poor or intermittent supply:
South Hills Tower: the tower is empty and affected by no supply due to low levels in the bulk supplier’s reservoir. Johannesburg Water continues to monitor the situation.

Alexander Park Reservoir: improved overnight but declined and is now empty due to intermittent supply and high demand on the system. A combination of poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.

Linksfield Reservoir: critically low due to intermittent supply. The reservoir improved overnight but was affected by high demand and poor supply. A combination of poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.

Randjieslaagte Reservoir improved overnight but is now declining due to high demand and poor supply. The system is supplying fairly; however, poor pressure may occur in high-lying areas.

Sandton reservoirs: the systems declined overnight but continue to supply fairly.
Linbro and Marlboro direct feeds: these systems are supplying normally.
Illovo and Linbro Park reservoirs: these systems may experience poor pressure due to high demand while the system recovers.
Midrand reservoirs: most systems are improving while some are stable and supplying normally. However, intermittent supply can still be expected while the systems recover.

The following Midrand systems are affected:

•Rabie Ridge Reservoir and Tower: the reservoir has improved overnight and supplying normally. The tower is on bypass mode due to a technical fault and is experiencing a combination of poor pressure to no water in the supply zone.
•President Park Reservoir and Tower: the reservoir improved overnight, while the tower is on bypass. Both systems are supplying fairly, but poor pressure may occur in high-lying areas.
Johannesburg Water continues to monitor the improvement and recovery of the system supply from Palmiet and has put necessary interventions in place.
Alternative water continues to be supplied to the areas affected.

Areas fed by Palmiet.
