Commando System

Johannesburg Water continues to monitor the water levels in the system in order to boost capacity and ensure fair distribution. The system is constrained due to demand exceeding supply.

Crosby Reservoir
The reservoir made slight improvements overnight but remains low and supplying fairly. Poor pressure may occur in high-lying areas of the supply zone.

Hursthill 1 and 2 Reservoirs
Hursthill 1 remains in bypass mode, resulting in poor pressure and to no water in the supply zone. The system has been reconfigured to boost supply and provide relief to customers. Hursthill 2 made slight improvements overnight but remains low, poor pressure to no water is expected high-lying areas. The outlet will be closed overnight to boost capacity for the next day.

Brixton Reservoir and Tower
The reservoir levels have improved and supplying fairly. Poor pressure is expected while the system is recovering. Johannesburg Water is monitoring the decline of the reservoir. As part of interventions the outlet will be closed overnight to boost capacity for the next day. The tower has improved and supplying normally, however, it might be affected by reservoir levels.

Update on second phase of Rand Water’s Palmiet Pump Station maintenance

Johannesburg Water systems have improved over the past week, post the Rand Water’s Palmiet Pump Station maintenance. However, some systems have improved while others have recovered. Intermitted supply may be excepted while the Palmiet system is recovering.

The following systems have improved and supplying normally:
Sandton system. South Hills tower, Linksfield and Randjieslaagte reservoirs

The following systems are still improving:
Alexander Park reservoir
Critically low due to poor supply and high demand. Poor pressure to no water is expected in high-lying areas of the supply zone. As part of day-to-day interventions Johannesburg Water will close the outlet overnight to build capacity.

Modderhill reservoir and direct feeds
The supply is supplying fairly while the direct feeds are affected by poor incoming supply. Poor pressure to be expected in the direct feed zone.

Midrand systems
Midrand systems are currently constrained as the demand exceeds the available supply. Johannesburg Water is implementing interventions to balance the system and equitably distribute the available capacity.

The affected systems are as follows:
Grand Central Reservoir and Tower
The reservoir is low but improving and supplying fairly. Poor pressure may occur in high lying areas of the reservoir zone. Grand Central Tower the levels are currently normal but decline due to low reservoir levels. The tower is supplying however, poor pressure to no water may occur while the reservoir is declining.

E-Rand 1 and 2 Reservoirs and Tower
Are stable and supplying normally, however they can be affected by poor incoming supply. E-Rand Tower is on bypass mode and supplying normally. Interventions are in place to balance and boost supply between E-Rand and Grand Central reservoir.

President Park Reservoirs and Tower
The reservoir has improved and supplying fairly, while the tower is operating on bypass mode and supplying fairly. Intermittent supply may occur while the system is improving.

Rabie Ridge Reservoir and Tower
The reservoir is stable and supplying fairly. The Tower is on bypass, residents in high-lying areas of the supply zone may experience a combination of poor water pressure or to no water.

REMINDER: Phase three of Rand Water Palmiet Pump Station maintenance to begin on 29 July 2024
The third phase, and the last of three) of the maintenance at Rand Water’s Palmiet Pump Station is scheduled to take place from Monday, 29 July 2024 at 05:00 and is scheduled to end on Tuesday, 30 July 2024 at 21:00.

Areas fed by Palmiet.

Commando System

Johannesburg Water is currently monitoring the water levels in the system in order to boost capacity and ensure fair distribution.

Crosby Reservoir
The reservoir remains low and supplying fairly. Poor pressure is expected in high-lying areas of the supply zone.

Hursthill 1 and 2 Reservoirs
Hursthill 1 is currently in bypass mode, resulting in poor pressure and no water in the supply zone. Reconfiguration measures are being implemented to boost supply and provide relief to customers. Hursthill 2 is improving but remains low, poor pressure to no water is expected high-lying areas. The outlet will be closed overnight to boost capacity for the next day.

Brixton Reservoir and Tower
The reservoir levels have improved but low and declining. Poor pressure is expected in high-lying areas. As part of interventions the outlet will be closed overnight to boost capacity for the next day. The tower has been improved and supplying normally, however, it might be affected by reservoir low levels.

Commando System: Cancellation of unplanned maintenance

23 July 2024

Customer Notice

Commando System: Cancellation of unplanned maintenance

The unplanned maintenance that was scheduled to take place today (23 July 2024) has been canceled due to technical challenges, and a new date will be communicated in due course.

Currently the system is constrained, and most reservoirs are critically low to empty.

Crosby Reservoir is currently low but supplying fairly. Poor pressure is expected in high-lying areas of the supply zone.

Brixton Reservoir and Tower: The reservoir levels are critically low, and the outlet is closed to build capacity, while the tower is empty. Pumping at Crosby will resume shortly, and Johannesburg Water will monitor the improvement. Pumping for the Brixton Tower will resume as soon as the water levels at Crosby improve. No water is expected in both the tower and reservoir zones. The reservoir will be closed overnight to boost capacity for tomorrow.

Hursthill 1 and 2 Reservoirs: Hursthill 1 is currently in bypass mode, resulting in poor pressure and no water in the supply zone. Reconfiguration measures are being implemented to boost supply and provide relief to customers. Hursthill 2 remains critically low, and poor pressure and no water is expected in high-lying areas. The outlet will be closed overnight to boost capacity for the next day.
