Closure of Sandton System to boost constrained systems
While most Sandton Reservoirs are stable and supplying normally, the Illovo Reservoir and Tower have shown improvement and are now supplying fairly. The water supply in Sandton will be closed overnight from 19:00 to 04:00, Sunday, 21 July. This intervention is implemented to boost other Johannesburg Water systems within the Palmiet system that have been affected.
Both the Linbro and Marlboro direct feeds are supplying normally, however, they will be impacted by the overnight closure of the Sandton supply. There will be no water available overnight, with the system expected to gradually recover on Sunday, 21 July 2024.
Overnight, the Sandton reservoirs will experience a combination of poor pressure to no water due to the closure of the Sandton supply. Restoration will occur in the morning with systems gradually returning to normal supply levels.
Johannesburg Water is closely monitoring the progress and restoration of the water supply system from Palmiet and will implement necessary measures as and when needed to assist in the recovery process.
Reservoirs and Towers supplied by Sandton system: Bryanston Reservoir and Tower, Illovo Reservoir and Tower, Linbro Park, Morningside and Marlboro Reservoirs, including Linbro and Marlboro direct feeds.

Commando System update
Johannesburg Water technical teams will continue to monitor the system overnight and implement measures to boost supply.
•Brixton Reservoir and Tower: the Reservoir and Tower levels have shown improvement and will be closed overnight to build capacity for the next day.
•Hursthill 1 and 2 Reservoirs: Hursthill 1 remains on bypass mode, poor pressure to no water can be expected in the supply zone. Reconfiguration is in place to boost supply and provide relief to customers. Hursthill 2 will be closed overnight to build capacity for the next day.
•Crosby Reservoir: currently, the capacity level is low, resulting in poor pressure in high lying areas of the supply zone.
Areas supplied by the Commando System.

Unplanned maintenance: Commando System
There is an unplanned maintenance that is scheduled for Tuesday, 23 July 2024.
The maintenance will be for the purpose of replacing the non-return valve to the Crosby Reservoir. The work is scheduled to take place for 12 hours, starting from 06:00 to 18:00. Thereafter, the system will gradually improve overnight.
The Commando System will be affected as follows:
•Brixton Reservoir and Tower
There will be no pumping to both the Brixton Reservoir and Tower. Both the Reservoir and Tower will supply normally in the morning. Poor pressure to no water will be experienced by customers as the reservoir gets depleted.
•Crosby Reservoir
The reservoir will operate as per normal in the morning and poor pressure to no water can be expected as the reservoir gets depleted.
•Hursthill 1 and 2 Reservoirs
Both reservoirs will operate normally as per the current configuration and status. However, due to the interconnected nature of the systems, poor pressure will be expected in Hursthill 1 reservoir zone.
Areas fed by the Commando System.
