Commando System Update

Crosby Reservoir
The reservoir has improved and is currently supplying water adequately.

Hursthill 1 and 2 Reservoirs
Both reservoirs have shown some improvement and are supplying fairly. However, the system remains constrained, and Johannesburg Water is closely monitoring the decline. This may result in low pressure in higher-lying areas within the supply zone. Measures are being implemented to ensure equitable water distribution.

Brixton Reservoir and Tower
Both the reservoir and tower have improved and are supplying water adequately. However, the system is under pressure, and Johannesburg Water is monitoring the situation closely.

Alternative water supply is being provided to affected areas as needed.

Illovo System Update

Since this morning’s interventions, water supply to Illovo has increased at a moderate rate. The reservoir outlet remained open to maintain supply to customers within the supply zone, hence the recovery levels are not high. To enhance recovery, the outlets from the Morningside, Marlboro, Bryanston, and Linbro reservoirs will be restricted during the night.

The Bryanston, Linbro, Marlboro, and Morningside reservoirs are currently supplying water.

Alternative water supply through tankers will continue in the affected areas, coordinated by ward councilors and onsite teams.

Further updates will be provided as they become available.

Illovo System Update

As previously communicated, the system was reconfigured last night to redirect water to the Illovo system. Unfortunately, this did not produce the expected results.

As committed, joint teams were deployed this morning to implement the following planned intervention:
1. The team continued with scouring air from the system at the Bramley point.

The above intervention has resulted in water supply being received into Illovo at a slow but promising rate. The reservoir outlet remains open to ensure supply to customers within the supply zone. However, the outlet will be restricted during the night to build up capacity in the reservoir.

The Bryanston, Linbro, Malboro, and Morningside reservoirs are currently supplying water.

Alternative water supply through tankers has been arranged and will be coordinated by ward councilors and onsite teams.

Further updates will be provided as they become available.

Illovo system update

The system was reconfigured last night in order to shift water to the Illovo system. However, that did not yield the desired results. Preliminary investigations point to an existence of an airlock on the system, which may be blocking water reaching the Illovo system – as this is the only reservoir within the Sandton system that is not getting water supply.

The technical team will therefore this morning be scouring air from the system until water can reach the Illovo reservoir complex.

The Bryanston, Linbro, Malrboro and Morningside reservoirs are supplying normally. Johannesburg Water will continue to closely monitor the Sandton system. Priority will be given to Illovo complex, to ensure that it eventually receives water supply.

Johannesburg Water leadership will this morning also meet with ward councillors from Illovo to appraise them of the mitigation strategies the Entity will be implementing to boost water supply.

Alternative water supply through water tankers is being arranged and will be coordinated with ward councillors.

Systems Update

11 August 2024 – 18:20
Systems Update
The water supply to Sandton 1 and 2 has been confirmed to be adequate from the bulk supplier, and Johannesburg Water is now working on restoring supply to its Sandton systems.
Sandton 1 and 2 System:
Although the water supply has returned to normal, the overall system will take some time to fully recover. Despite expectations for improvement last night, the system did not recover as anticipated.
Technical teams have been working to remove air from the system. Several airlocks were identified, and teams are systematically removing them. This work will continue throughout the evening.
Illovo Reservoir and Tower:
Both the reservoirs and tower are currently empty, resulting in no water supply.
Bryanston System:
The reservoirs have water, but the area will continue to experience low water pressure.
Marlboro System:
Although the reservoir has water, the area will still experience low water pressure.
Morningside System:
The reservoir is critically low, causing low water pressure in the area.
An alternative water supply has been expanded and is being provided to affected areas through water tankers supplied by Johannesburg Water.
Customers will receive updates as the situation gradually improves.
