Postponed Rand Water planned shutdown to take place in July

The previously postponed Rand Water shutdown, which was scheduled to take place in June, has been moved to 11 – 13 July 2023.
The planned shutdown will take place from 19:00 on Tuesday, 11 July 2023 to 15:00 on Thursday, 13 July 2023.
Initially, the planned shutdown was scheduled from 20 to 22 June 2023; however, Johannesburg Water requested the postponement in order to provide relief to those areas that had been experiencing water supply challenges in the preceding weeks.
The purpose of the planned shutdown is to complete a tie-in between the A19 and B14 with a new pipeline, installation of isolation valves, and systems upgrades at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station.
The following Rand Water reservoirs will be affected:
• Meredale 1 & 2
• Waterval 1 & 2
• Weltevreden
• Roodepoort
• Foresthill 1, 2 & 3
Supply to Johannesburg Water’s Yeoville reservoir will also be affected.
During the Rand Water shutdown, Johannesburg Water infrastructure supplied by the Eikenhof pump station will be affected by no water supply. It is estimated that full recovery of the systems may take approximately five days or longer after supply has been fully restored.
All areas receiving direct water supply from Rand Water will also be impacted by the shutdown. Johannesburg Water will make arrangements for alternative water supply at strategic areas like hospitals, clinics, schools, municipal offices, police stations and shopping centres.
Residents will receive regular updates on the official Johannesburg Water social media platforms.
The following areas within the City of Johannesburg will be impacted by the water outage:
1. Roodepoort/Randburg areas:
Claremont, Delarey, Whiteridge, Roodekrans, Wilropark, Helderkruin, Constantia Kloof, Allen’s Nek, Weltevreden, Florida Hills, Florida North, Discovery, Selwyn, Florida Township, Horison, Horison View, Roodepoort North, Florida Park, Constantia Park, Honeydew, Zandspruit, Laserpark, Randparkridge, Cosmo City, Lanseria, Thabo Mbeki Informal Settlement, Olivedale, Sundowner, Bergbron, Northwold, Boskruin, Bromhof, Kya Sands, Bloubosrand, Eagle Canyon, Honeydew View, Poortview, Ruimsig, Wilgeheuwel, Princess, Grobler Park, Lindhaven, Little Falls, Harveston, Honeydew, parts of Northriding.

Johannesburg Water would like to advise residents that the Rand Water planned shutdown impacting the Eikenhof Pump Station from 20 to 22 June 2023 has been postponed until further notice.

The purpose of the planned shutdown is to complete a tie-in between the A19 and B14 with a new pipeline, installation of isolation valves, and systems upgrades at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station

Johannesburg Water would like to advise residents of the Rand Water planned shutdown to tie in between the A19 and B14 with a new pipeline, installation of isolation valves and systems upgrades at Eikenhof pump station. The shutdown is planned for 20th June 2023, commencing from 07h00 to 22 June 2023 at 15h00.

The following Rand Water reservoirs will be affected:
1. Waterval 1& 2
2. Weltevreden
3. Roodepoort
4. Meredale 1&2

Johannesburg Water continues monitoring critically affected systems

Johannesburg Water reservoirs and towers continue to be closely monitored. As Rand Water systems are still in recovery, specific Johannesburg Water infrastructure have noted decreased flows, impacting on capacity.

Below are the updates on reservoir and towers levels:
Alexander Park reservoir: recovered
Crown Gardens: reservoir levels are stable. Tower is operating normally. We have opened the outlet at 50%
South hills tower: recovered. Pumps are running.
Brixton reservoir and tower: reservoir outlet opened at 50%. Tower is operating normally. Monitoring reservoir levels. The reservoir levels are not sufficient to opened at 100% at this stage.
Hursthill 1 and 2: critically low to empty.
Honeydew reservoir and tower: reservoir low but stable. The tower is at normal capacity.
Randparkridge: recovered.
Helderkruin reservoir and tower: reservoir levels continue to improve, and the tower is operating normally.
Linden 1 reservoir and tower 1: reservoir levels are critically low, and we have stopped pumping into the tower. Tower is empty.
Quellerina: low but stable
Waterval towers: critically low, due to reduced supply.
Horison tower: critically low, due to reduced supply.
Constantia: operating normally.
Florida North towers: tower is empty due to reduced supply.
Eagle Nest reservoir: critically low levels.
Orlando reservoir: recovered.
Blairgowrie reservoir: levels have increased.
Boschkop reservoir: recovered.
