Update: Grand Central, Erand, and President Park reservoirs
With high demand and limited available capacity on the Midrand Systems, the Grand Central, Erand and President Park systems are impacted.
To manage demand and to provide supply, Johannesburg Water will have to continue to apply aggressive reconfigurations on the Grand Central and Erand reservoirs in order to sustain both systems.
The level of the Grand Central Reservoir was stable overnight. The reservoir is pumping to the tower but will be stopped once the threshold is reached.
The Erand 1 Reservoir level is satisfactory, hence pumping to the tower is in progress. However, pumping could stop once the reservoir threshold is reached.
President Park Reservoir is impacted this morning and is very low. Customers in the supply zone could experience low pressure to no water.
Alternative water can be provided to affected areas upon any confirmation of no water situations.
Further updates will be provided as they become available.

South Hills Update
South Hills Tower is critically low due to very low inflows and poor suction pressures, which results in no pumping to the tower.
Customers will experience poor pressure to no water. However, an alternative water supply through mobile water tankers is being arranged.
The Entity is closely monitoring the system, and further updates will be provided when there are changes in the system.

Commando Systems update
Commando system is stable but still at critical levels
The Commando system (Brixton, Crosby and Hursthill reservoir complexes) continues to be high priority and is still under constant observation.
Night closures of reservoirs as well as throttling and closure of high demand areas continue to be implemented as several interventions aimed at enhancing the recovery of the system. Mostly against increasing demand and rising temperatures.
Through reconfiguration of systems, both from Johannesburg Water and the bulk supplier, the system is showing satisfactory signs of recovery with normal supply being observed.
- Crosby Reservoir: Inflow is satisfactory, with the level remaining fair and both pumps running.
- Brixton Reservoir and Tower: The system is fair with both pumps running. The tower level is low but is receiving supply.
- Hursthill 1 Reservoir: The reservoir is empty and on bypass as previously communicated. The system is dependent on inflow, which is currently fair.
- Hursthill 2 Reservoir: The system level is satisfactory with fair inflows observed.
Updates on the recovery of the Commando and associated systems will be provided as Johannesburg Water implements a broadened restriction schedule (issued separately) and other reconfigurations.
Alternative water supply through tankers will be provided as and when required.

Sandton meters to be closed tonight as part of water demand management
As part of water demand management efforts, Johannesburg Water will be closing the Sandton meters tonight, Wednesday 23 October, from 19:00 until 05:00 tomorrow morning.
This is to ensure equal water supply distribution to struggling systems and areas within the Johannesburg Water network.
The Linbro Park and Marlboro direct feeds will be affected the most during these interventions, and all customers fed by the Sandton System may experience poor pressure to no water overnight. Once the meter is reopened in the morning, it will take several hours for the system to fully recover.
Areas affected by the Sandton System:
Residents are requested to observe level 1 water restrictions which are implemented from 1 September 2024 to 31 March 2025. These restrictions prohibit the use of hosepipes to water gardens, wash cars, clean driveways, and fill up swimming pools and water features between 06:00 and 18:00.

Klipfontein View update
Water supply issues continue to persist in the Klipfontein View area, which is still being affected by high demand on the bulk supplying reservoir.
This is affecting the supply to the Chloorkop Reservoir, which still has low levels, this is resulting in poor pressure to no water, especially in high-lying areas of Klipfontein View.
There is currently no estimated time for recovery. However, Johannesburg Water continues to closely monitor the situation.
Johannesburg Water is working with its stakeholders on the completion of the alternative supply of reticulation water targeted for the first week of October 2024.
Alternative water supply also continues to be provided where required.

Update: Grand Central and Erand
Grand Central
Due to the configuration of the system overnight, the Grand Central Reservoir improved and is at satisfactory level, enabling pumping to the tower overnight. The tower level is satisfactory, and pumping has stopped this morning to allow the reservoir to build. The areas from the tower will be supplied fairly.
Erand Reservoir and Tower
The reservoirs and tower are stable but low. Johannesburg Water is currently not pumping to the Tower until the reservoirs are able to recover further. The tower has water and is currently supplying fairly. The level of the reservoirs is being monitored.
There is currently no estimated time for full recovery. However, Johannesburg Water continues to closely monitor the situation and will implement system configurations as and when required to balance supply between the two reservoirs.
Alternative water supply also continues to be provided where required.
