Update on Johannesburg Water systems recovery post outage at Zwartkopjes pump station
Power was restored at Rand Water’s Zwartkopjes Pump station on 15 June 2024 and pumping resumed around 09:00 yesterday.
The following Johannesburg Water systems are affected, and some are recovering.
Commando System: Supply to Commando has improved, however the system is still in recovery mode which requires days of constant supply. Hursthill 1 and 2 reservoirs are critically low, poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone mostly in high-lying areas. Hursthill 2 reservoir outlet will be closed overnight to build capacity.
Crown Gardens Reservoir: remains low and pumping has resumed to provide relief in tower zone. Poor pressure is expected in high-lying areas of the reservoir supply zone and Tower zone. The Crown Gardens reservoir outlet will be closed overnight or as soon the level drop too low.
Eagles Nest Reservoir: is low but recovering and supplying normally, including supply to Alan Manor and Naturena reservoirs has improved. Both reservoirs are supplying normally.
Yeoville reservoir: remains low but improving. Pumping has resumed and the system is recovering. Poor pressure is expected in both reservoir and pump station zones while the system is recovering.
Forest Hill tower zone and direct supply has improved. However, poor pressure is expected in certain parts and high-lying areas of the supply zone.
Repairs in Randburg area affecting:
Linden 1 reservoir and tower are empty, and no water is expected in the supply zone.
Linden 2 reservoir, Kensington B reservoir and tower: Are empty and no water is expected in the supply zone.
Recovery will commence once repairs are completed. Repairs have been continuously ongoing and will continue until the repair is completed. There is multiple complex welding to be done under tough site conditions, but the teams are progressing.
Johannesburg Water is monitoring the situation and providing relief and alternate water where required. Water tanking will be expanded to areas being reported as affected.
Johannesburg Water apologies for the inconvenience caused and will provide updates to customers.
