Commando System Update
Following the two incidents that affected power supply at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station and Vereeniging Treatment Plant this week, the Commando System has not yet recovered.
This is affecting water supply in the Commando System (which comprises, Hursthill, Crosby and Brixton).
Bulk supplier, Rand Water, has agreed to pump an additional 100Megalitres overnight, in order to boost capacity in this system. Johannesburg Water will also continue with closing the Hursthill 2 reservoir outlet overnight, to boost capacity for tomorrow.
These interventions will assist in the recovery of the commando system for tomorrow.
The team will monitor the recovery of the system and updates will be provided to customers.

Update: Wynberg, Bramley North, Alexandra
Following the repairs that were conducted on Friday, 24 May on a 375mm main water pipe which affected Wynberg, Bramley North, and parts of Alexandra (1st to 3rd Streets), water samples were sent to the laboratory for testing.
Contaminants were found in the water samples that were tested. The Johannesburg Water team will immediately flush the system to ensure that the water is safe to drink.
In the meantime, residents and customers are requested to refrain from using the water until communication is shared that the water is safe to consume. Alternative water supply will continue to be provided.
Johannesburg Water will monitor the situation and provide further updates as they become available.
