Midrand system is under strain

The bulk supply system (Midrand) continues to be under strain due to high demand.

Grand Central System
The Grand Central Reservoir is at less than 50% capacity, while the Grand Central Tower was empty overnight. Pumping could only commence early this morning, and it can be confirmed that the tower is building capacity currently. Areas supplied from these zones will receive low pressure to no water, especially in the higher lying areas, as the tower recovers. The system has been configured to allow some recovery of the
Grand Centra system during the day.

Erand System
The system was configured overnight to allow it to recover. While the reservoir did recover slightly, it remains low. The tower has some capacity and is supplying. Areas fed from these zones will receive low pressure to no water, especially in the higher lying areas.

Johannesburg Water is working on configuring the outlets to allow the system to build up overnight, while demand is lower on the system.
Johannesburg Water will arrange for alternative water to the affected areas as and when required.

Parktown 2 Reservoir is stable

Charlotte Maxeke Hospital has normalised, while the water levels at the Parktown 2 Reservoir continue to remain stable.

Parktown 2 Reservoir
The reservoir remains stable and supplying normally. The network is saturating, and there may be pockets of areas of poor pressure while the system is recovering.

Dunkeld Reservoir
The Dunkeld Reservoir continues to improve. The network is still charging, and there may be areas of poor pressure while the system recovers.

Berea Reservoir
The reservoir is supplying fairly. The system is configured to boost supply to customers. The capacity of the reservoir is expected to improve overnight.
With the current positive outlook, the Entity continues to monitor all three systems for bursts and is attending to airlocks that could be contributing to the lack of water supply. All three outlets are open, and systems are improving.

However, Johannesburg Water will continue monitoring and implementing necessary interventions to facilitate recovery and stabilise the system.
Johannesburg Water remains committed to resolving this matter and most customers have supply while alternative water supply is available to affected areas.

Alternative water supply continues to be provided.

Parktown 2 Reservoir makes headway towards recovery

Charlotte Maxeke Hospital has a stable water supply, while the water levels at the Parktown 2 Reservoir continue to remain stable.

Parktown 2 Reservoir
The reservoir has improved and remains stable, and the outlet has been fully opened to supply the zone. The network is still charging, and poor pressure may occur while the system is recovering.

Dunkeld Reservoir
The inlet to the Dunkeld Reservoir has been opened and the capacity of the reservoir is improving. The network is still charging, and poor pressure may occur while the system recovers.

In both of the above systems, teams have been on the ground flushing the lines of airlocks.

Berea Reservoir
The reservoir remains low but supplying fairly. The system is configured to boost supply to customers. The capacity of the reservoir is expected to improve overnight and continue to improve over the next few days.

Johannesburg Water remains committed to resolving this matter and most customers have supply while alternative water supply continues to be provided to affected areas.

Klipfontein View update

18 September 2024 – 15:00

Customer Notice

Klipfontein View update

Johannesburg Water is working on an alternative supply connection which is anticipated to be completed by the first week of October.

This comes as water supply issues persist in the Klipfontein View area, which is still being affected by high demand on the bulk supplying reservoir. The reservoir remains low, which affects supply to high-lying areas of Klipfontein View.

Currently, there is no estimated time for recovery. However, Johannesburg Water continues to closely monitor the situation.

Alternative water supply also continues to be provided where required.
