Charlotte Maxeke has water as Parktown 2 Reservoir improves

Charlotte Maxeke Hospital is recovering and has a stable water supply, while the water levels at the Parktown 2 Reservoir have improved.
This follows the interventions implemented by Johannesburg Water overnight and throughout the day. This includes increasing supply in collaboration with the bulk supplier and closing the downstream of Parktown 2.
With the current positive outlook, the Entity has now opted to open the downstream of the Parktown 2 Reservoir at 25% and gradually increasing the opening through the night while already closing the inlet to the Dunkeld Reservoir late this afternoon. This is to channel volume into the Parktown 2 reticulation.
Johannesburg Water remains committed to resolving this matter and will continue making the necessary adjustments to improve the situation.
Alternative water supply continues to be provided.

Parktown 2, Dunkeld, and Berea reservoirs update

Configuration of the systems were implemented overnight. There was slight improvement at the Parktown 2 Reservoir and satisfactory improvement at the Berea Reservoir.

However, the reservoirs are still low due to challenges in supply and increased consumption. The Dunkeld Reservoir also remains critically low.

All three reservoirs remain low, and customers within these supply zones will experience poor pressure to no water supply, especially in high-lying areas.

There is no estimated time for restoration currently; however, Johannesburg Water continues to implement configuration changes to boost the system. The Entity will closely monitor and make necessary adjustments to improve the situation.

Alternative water supply will be arranged for affected customers as and when necessary.

South Hills Tower and Klipfontein View update

Efforts were made overnight to boost both systems, however, the South Hills Tower remains critically low with no pumping taking place at the tower. This is due to incoming bulk supply still being a challenge, as well as high demand.

The Klipfontein View area is also affected by similar challenges of constrained incoming water supply.

There is currently no estimated time for recovery. However, Johannesburg Water continues to closely monitor the situation, and pumping at the tower can only resume as soon the supply improves adequately.

Johannesburg Water continues to provide alternative water supply where required.

Areas affected:

Klipfontein View
•South Hills Tower supply zone: Risana, South Hills, Tulisa Park, Steeledale, Linmeyer, Oakdene, Rosettenville and Klipriviersberg Estate.

Charlotte Maxeke Hospital impacted by Parktown 2 Reservoir challenges

Charlotte Maxeke Hospital impacted by Parktown 2 Reservoir challenges

The Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital has been greatly impacted by the water supply challenges at the Parktown 2 Reservoir.

Johannesburg Water’s technical teams are currently at the hospital trying to find solutions to boosting their supply.

Currently, the Parktown 2 Reservoir is critically low to empty. This is due to the combination of poor supply and high demand. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.

Johannesburg Water’s teams continue to investigate the supply and demand side of the system without finding the cause of sudden poor supply and high demand. The teams continue investigations into finding the cause for the poor supply and addressing airlocks. These investigations require considerable time.

The reservoir has been reconfigured to boost incoming supply, and there is no estimated time of restoration at this stage. Improvements are, however, expected overnight.

Meanwhile, the Berea Reservoir declined but supplying fairly. Poor pressure may occur while supply is reconfigured to boost supply at Parktown 2 Reservoir. The Entity is monitoring and making necessary adjustments to keep the system stable.

The Dunkeld Reservoir is critically low to empty. The inlet remains open, but the reservoir is affected by the capacity of Parktown 2 Reservoir. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.

Johannesburg Water is closely monitoring all three reservoirs and making necessary adjustments to improve the situation.
Alternative water supply will be arranged for affected customers as and when it becomes necessary.
