Reason: Complete of tie-in of the newly replaced section of the G20 pipeline to the existing G20 pipeline

Unplanned Interruptions

1. Major burst: corner Cavendish Street and Dalton Road, Wendywood

The team has completed relevant repairs and the special services team will now restore water to affected areas.

Affected areas include parts of:
Gallo Manor, Wendywood, Kelvin, Marlboro, Sunninghill, Waterfall, Eastgate and Woodmead.

2. Repair of reoccurring major burst and valve installation at corner Witkoppen Road and William Nicol Drive

Yesterday (Tuesday 4 April 2023), the team completed the installation of the isolation valve as well as repairs on the asbestos cement main (AC main).

Valves will be fully opened this morning and the site will be monitored for leaks.

Affected areas include parts of:
Douglasdale, Fourways, Magaliesig, Witkoppen, Maroeladal, Fourways Gardens, Craigavon, Kengies, Dainfern, Lonehill, Beverly, Paulshof, Pineslopes, Magaliesig View and Noscot.

Unplanned Interruptions

1. Johannesburg Water Customer Notice: Technical issues at the Yeoville pump station.
On Thursday afternoon, a pump at the Yeoville pump station stopped working due to a technical fault. Technicians are on the ground trying to find the reason for the fault and resolve the problem.
Areas affected: in the Yeoville tower zone have intermittent to no water supply. The affected areas have been provided with alternative water supply through mobile water tankers.
There is no estimated time of completion at this stage. Johannesburg Water apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused.

2. No water in Greater Ivory Park due to planned shutdown by Rand Water

The team is still on site busy with the RW inlet meter replacement in President Park.

Alternate water supply is being provided through mobile tankers in the areas as communicated per the original notice.

Affected areas include parts of:
Ebony Park
Kaalfontein
Ivory Park
Rabie Ridge

Estimated time for completion is 13H00

1. Repairs on two major bursts at corner Witkoppen and William Nicol Drive: Large area outage

Intermittent rain has delayed repairs on the second burst, as the excavation was flooded. The team, together with management, have been onsite throughout the night to finalise repairs, and work will continue this morning until repairs are completed.

Scope of work:
• Repairs to second burst
• Flushing of the network

Affected areas include parts of:
Douglasdale, Fourways, Magaliesig, Witkoppen, Maroeladal, Fourways Gardens, Craigavon, Kengies, Dainfern, Lonehill, Beverly, Paulshof, Pineslopes, Magaliesig View and Noscot.

There is no estimated completion time at this stage. Further updates will be provided to customers. Johannesburg Water apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused.
UPDATE: The team has finalized repairs on the second burst. Valves will be opened gradually to monitor for leaks.

2. No water in parts of Yeoville, Bertrams and Bezuidenhout Valley

Johannesburg Water apologises to customers affected by the outage in parts of Yeoville, Bertrams and Bezuidenhout Valley. During the planned maintenance of reservoirs, Yeoville reservoirs 1 and 3 were isolated to complete the cleaning of Yeoville 2 reservoir. Operational challenges during the opening of outlets, resulted in overflow of Yeoville 1 and 3 reservoirs.
The teams are currently onsite and ensuring that valves are opened to allow the recovery of the network, and to reduce the overflow at the reservoirs.

Customers in high lying areas will experience no water/ low pressure as the systems are normalising. Johannesburg Water apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused.

• Widening of excavation at the site, including the removal of a large slab of concrete covering the affected pipeline.
