Unplanned Interruptions

1.

1. Replacement of AC main
Johannesburg Water wishes to inform customers of the emergency shutdown taking place to replace asbestos cement pipeline at corner Uranium and Cedar Road, Witkoppen.

Affected areas include:
Witkoppen, Maroeladal, Craigavon, and Fourways Life Hospital. Estimated Time of Completion is 5:00pm and, further updates will be provided to customers.

2. Recovery of Eikenhof system after power failure
Johannesburg Water wishes to advise customers that City Power has completed repairs at Eikenhof pump station, and pumping has resumed at full capacity. The Rand Water reservoirs will need to recover before a positive effect can be seen through improved levels at Johannesburg Water’s systems.

Johannesburg Water is monitoring supply to the following affected infrastructure:

1. Commando system (Crosby, Brixton and Hursthill)

2. Randwater direct feeds:
* Cornelius Street
* Weltevreden High pressure
* Weltevreden High pressure bypass

3. Honeydew tower

4. Linden tower

5. Riverlea Ext 2

6. Florida tower

7. Constantia tower

8. Helderkruin reservoir and tower

9. Witpoortjie reservoir and tower

10. Crown Gardens reservoir and tower

11. Eagle Nest reservoir

The Crosby, Brixton, Hurst Hill, Crown Gardens, Linden and Eagles Nest systems are at critically low levels. Customers in the higher lying areas will experience no water/poor pressure.

Alternate water supply is arranged for sensitive customers, i.e., hospitals and customers in higher lying areas.

The predicted cooler weather over the next few days will assist in lowering water demand, which affects the maintenance of capacity. Johannesburg Water requests customers to continue reducing consumption, only using water for human and household needs, which will significantly assist in recovery the affected systems.

Unplanned Interruptions

1. Tie-inn progress update: Melrose
Melrose work was completed earlier this morning. A minor leak was identified at one of the sites, as the team was operating valves to restore water. Water has been isolated to allow the contractor to assess the cause of the leak.
Affected areas include parts of:
Saxonwold, Killarney, Dunkeld, Parktown, Parkwood, Rosebank, Houghton Estate, Forest Town, Parkview, Birdhaven, Riviera, Melrose North and Melrose Estate.

There is no estimated completion time at this stage, and Further updates will be provided to customers.

2. Major burst on Commissioner and Mooi streets in Johannesburg
There is an emergency shutdown affecting parts of the Joburg CBD and Doornfontein.
The relevant repairs were completed earlier this morning. Water is being restored. Johannesburg Water thanks customers for their patience and understanding.

3. Infrastructure Update: Monitoring of severely strained systems
Johannesburg Water is monitoring severely constrained reservoirs and towers.
Customers can assist by using water for critical needs only at this time. The sustainability of capacity is dependent on water usage during the course of the day.

1. Honeydew systems:
Reservoir level is low but stable. The tower is stable.

2. Parktown 2 reservoir:
Reservoir levels are low.

3. Helderkruin systems:
The reservoir is low.
The tower levels are stable.

4. Linden systems:
Linden reservoir is low but stable.
Linden tower is stable. Customers are advised to use water sparingly to sustain capacity.

5. Hursthill reservoirs:
Both reservoirs are critically low. Customers in higher-lying areas will experience no water/ poor pressure.

6. Brixton systems:
City Power mains failure earlier this morning affected supply from Crosby reservoir to Brixton reservoir. The outlet of Brixton reservoir has been isolated to build capacity and to sustain supply to the tower.

7. Alexander Park reservoir:
Reservoir levels remain critically low.

• Honeydew systems:
Reservoir level is critically low. The tower is stable.

• Parktown 2 reservoir:
Reservoir levels are critically due to higher demand.

• Helderkruin systems:
The reservoir is low.
The tower levels are stable but will be impacted by higher demand.

• Linden systems:
Linden reservoir is low but stable.
Linden tower is stable. Customers are advised to use water sparingly to sustain capacity.
