City Power Eikenhof Pump Station not on fire

Johannesburg Water (JW) would like to inform residents to be cautious of the false information making rounds that City Power substation caught fire in Eikenhof resulting in a power outage. Residents are requested to ignore this information as it is false.

The statement circulating states that residents in the following areas: Greater Roodepoort/Randburg area, Langlaagte/ Southdale and the Soweto Areas should take heed of the outage. It further states that the outage will affect the Eikenhoff Pump station and cause a water supply disruption that will affect the listed areas.

Johannesburg Water would like to clearly state that this statement was not issued by us and the Entity distances itself from such misinformation. Customers are urged to verify information with JW before circulating it to avoid unnecessary panic.

Furthermore, JW would like to remind the residents of a planned Rand Water Shutdown that will take place on the 3rd of June 2022. The shutdown is due to the installation of a new non-return valve on pumpset 20 at the Vereeniging Water Treatment Plant and, to tie-in the newly installed F46 pipeline to the existing F34 pipeline. The water supply to the Eikenhof Booster Station will be reduced by 50% and this will affect several areas in JW’s area of supply.
