Johannesburg Water monitors improved services

14 April 2022

Johannesburg Water was constrained to close water supply to the Brixton Reservoir and Tower yesterday afternoon. This was due to continuous low water supply from Rand Water as well as load shedding.

This compromised water supply in the Crosby, Brixton and Hursthill Reservoir zones. Johannesburg Water managed to recover the Brixton Reservoir this afternoon, to a level that enabled pumping into the Tower zone and water supply continues to stabalise. Once levels fully recovers, we will start opening water supply into the Reservoir zone, with expected full recovery by midnight. The Crosby Reservoir levels are still low but stable, while Hursthill remains critical.

Johannesburg Water endeavors to improve the Hursthill Reservoir during the course of the weekend pending improved supply from Rand Water.

As part of mitigating challenges relating to power failures that has negatively impacted our water supply, Johannesburg Water has placed generators at the Crosby, Brixton and Forest Hill pump stations. The generators will remain on site for a considerable period to ensure that these vulnerable sites are not affected by power failures and load shedding.

Johannesburg Water remains committed in supplying quality service to the residents of the City and apologises to those affected for the inconvenience caused.

Systems update: Power failures affecting water supply

Systems update: Power failures affecting water supply

11 April 2022

Johannesburg Water wishes to inform residents that pumping has commenced at Forest Hill as the Rand Water Zwartkopjes started pumping at full capacity. We are committed to restore water in the affected areas by mid-day.

The Rand Water Waterval and Meredale Reservoirs have not gained sufficient capacity as expected, this is still impacting the Commando meter that feeds Brixton, Crosby and Hursthill Reservoirs. There has been improvements at our Brixton and Crosby supply however Hursthill remains critically low and customers in the affected areas may experience low pressure/ intermittent supply.

Johannesburg Water continues to monitor the affected infrastructure as the Rand Water Waterval and Meredale Reservoirs recover.

There are roaming tankers in and around Forest Hill areas.

Johannesburg Water apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused.

Monitoring of JW Infrastructure impacted by Rand Water supply

Our bulk supplier, Rand Water experienced yet another power failure at the Eikenhof pump station from City Power from midnight until 5am this morning.

This impacted the Hursthill Reservoirs which were still on recovering mode post the Thursday power failure at the Lethabo raw water pump station.

Customers in the higher lying areas of the Hursthill Reservoir feed may experience no water/ inconsistent supply. The Crosby and Brixton systems were also affected and currently at low level but stable at the moment.

Customers should report leaks and bursts in the area which may impact on the recovery of the system.

Johannesburg Water apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused.
