Update: Rand Water advises correction of planned shutdown completion date
Bulk supplier Rand Water has advised corrections of the completion date of its planned shutdown. It is now scheduled from 19:00 on Tuesday 11 July to 05:00, Friday on 14 July 2023.
The shutdown completion date and time has been moved from 13 July, 15:00 to 14 July, 05:00.
The purpose of the planned shutdown is to complete a tie-in between the A19 and B14 with a new pipeline, installation of isolation valves, and systems upgrades at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station.
The Rand Water Daleside pump station will also be impacted during the shutdown, as well as Johannesburg Water’s Yeoville reservoir.
Further updates on the impacted Johannesburg infrastructure (reservoirs, towers and direct feeds) as well detailed information on alternative water supply will be provided.
Information will be provided on official Johannesburg Water social media platforms.

Upcoming Rand Water planned shutdown: affected Johannesburg Water reservoirs
As previously communicated, the planned Rand Water shutdown will take place from 19:00 Tuesday, 11 July to 15:00 Thursday, 13 July 2023.
Customers are requested to store water 48 hours (Sunday, 9 July) prior to the start of the shutdown to sustain capacity within the impacted infrastructure.
The purpose of the planned shutdown is to install isolation valves, and conduct systems upgrades at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station.
During the shutdown, Johannesburg Water infrastructure supplied by Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station will be affected by no water supply, as well as areas receiving direct water supply from Rand Water. It is estimated that full recovery of the systems may take approximately five days or longer after supply has been fully restored.
Johannesburg Water will make arrangements for alternative water supply at hospitals, clinics, schools, municipal offices, police stations and shopping centres.
Residents will receive regular updates on the official Johannesburg Water social media platforms.

Postponed Rand Water planned shutdown to take place in July
The previously postponed Rand Water shutdown, which was scheduled to take place in June, has been moved to 11 – 13 July 2023.
The planned shutdown will take place from 19:00 on Tuesday, 11 July 2023 to 15:00 on Thursday, 13 July 2023.
Initially, the planned shutdown was scheduled from 20 to 22 June 2023; however, Johannesburg Water requested the postponement in order to provide relief to those areas that had been experiencing water supply challenges in the preceding weeks.
The purpose of the planned shutdown is to complete a tie-in between the A19 and B14 with a new pipeline, installation of isolation valves, and systems upgrades at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station.
The following Rand Water reservoirs will be affected:
• Meredale 1 & 2
• Waterval 1 & 2
• Weltevreden
• Roodepoort
• Foresthill 1, 2 & 3
Supply to Johannesburg Water’s Yeoville reservoir will also be affected.

Rand Water postpones planned shutdown
Johannesburg Water would like to advise residents that the Rand Water planned shutdown impacting the Eikenhof Pump Station from 20 to 22 June 2023 has been postponed until further notice.
The purpose of the planned shutdown is to complete a tie-in between the A19 and B14 with a new pipeline, installation of isolation valves, and systems upgrades at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station

Johannesburg Water continues monitoring critically affected systems
Johannesburg Water reservoirs and towers continue to be closely monitored. As Rand Water systems are still in recovery, specific Johannesburg Water infrastructure have noted decreased flows, impacting on capacity.
Below are the updates on reservoir and towers levels:
Alexander Park reservoir: recovered
Crown Gardens: reservoir levels are stable. Tower is operating normally. We have opened the outlet at 50%
South hills tower: recovered. Pumps are running.
Brixton reservoir and tower: reservoir outlet opened at 50%. Tower is operating normally. Monitoring reservoir levels. The reservoir levels are not sufficient to opened at 100% at this stage.
Hursthill 1 and 2: critically low to empty.
Honeydew reservoir and tower: reservoir low but stable. The tower is at normal capacity.
Randparkridge: recovered.
Helderkruin reservoir and tower: reservoir levels continue to improve, and the tower is operating normally.
Linden 1 reservoir and tower 1: reservoir levels are critically low, and we have stopped pumping into the tower. Tower is empty.
Quellerina: low but stable
Waterval towers: critically low, due to reduced supply.
Horison tower: critically low, due to reduced supply.
Constantia: operating normally.
Florida North towers: tower is empty due to reduced supply.
Eagle Nest reservoir: critically low levels.
Orlando reservoir: recovered.
Blairgowrie reservoir: levels have increased.
Boschkop reservoir: recovered.

Johannesburg Water’s critical systems making steady progress
Johannesburg Water continues to closely monitor the entity’s reservoirs and towers.
By Sunday morning, the majority of previously critically impacted systems had improved.
Below are the updates on reservoir and towers levels:
1. Alexander Park reservoir: recovered.
2. Crown Gardens reservoir: reservoir levels are sufficient for pumping to the tower. We continue to monitor the consistency of flow to be able to open the outlet at 50%.
3. South Hills tower: recovered. Pumps are operational.
4. Brixton reservoir and tower: reservoir outlet opened at 50% and the tower is full. Reservoir levels are being monitored. We will open at 100% capacity based on reservoir levels.
5. Hursthill 1 and 2: due to low flows, the systems remain critically low.
6. Honeydew reservoir and tower: reservoir levels have decreased to being critically low. Customers in the reservoir zone need to use water sparingly. The tower is at normal capacity.
7. Randpark Ridge: recovered.
8. Helderkruin reservoir and tower: reservoir levels have improved since yesterday and the tower is operating normally.
9. Linden 1 reservoir and tower 1: reservoir levels have increased, and we are pumping into the tower.
10. Quellerina and Waterval towers: supply has improved, and we are pumping to the tower.
11. Horison, Constantia Florida North: pumps are running. Levels are improving.
12. Eagles Nest reservoir: levels are low but recovering.
13. Orlando reservoir: recovered.
14. Blairgowrie reservoir: empty.
15. Boschkop reservoir: recovered.
Alternative water supply is being provided to affected areas. Further updates will be provided.
