Systems update

Sandton systems
All reservoirs retained stability overnight and are supplying normally. The Illovo reservoir outlet is open to 50%. However, Johannesburg Water will monitor the Sandton systems due to decreased supply into the direct feeds. Click here for the list of suburbs supplied by the Linbro Park and Marlboro direct feeds.

Commando System
• Brixton reservoir: Enjoyed some gains overnight due to mitigation strategy of throttling. The outlet currently throttled to 50% to retain capacity. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.
• Brixton tower: Critically low and pumping continues at half capacity due to low reservoir levels.
• Hursthill 1 and 2 reservoirs: Both reservoirs made improvements overnight, however, they remain lower than desired levels due to poor inflows. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone. The outlet is throttled to 50% to retain capacity.
• Crosby reservoir: Due to maintenance, the reservoir is supplying in bypass mode. Low pressure to no water is anticipated in the supply zone.

South Hills tower
The tower’s pumping has stopped due to the unstable incoming supply. Regular pumping will only resume once incoming improves. The tower is currently supplying through bypass mode. Low pressure to no water is expected.

Midrand Systems (Rabie Ridge and Diepsloot)
Rabie Ridge reservoir and tower
The reservoir maintained stability overnight due to the daily throttling, however, the level remains low. Both tower and reservoir outlets are opened at 30% to retain capacity. The tower is supplying the area through bypass mode. Both supply zones may experience poor pressure.

Diepsloot reservoir
Water levels remained stable overnight because of the mitigation strategy of throttling. The outlet will be opened at 50% today to retain capacity. The supply zone may experience low pressure.

Linden 1 reservoir and tower
The reservoir remained stable overnight and continues to supply normally. The tower improved overnight and is supplying normally. Johannesburg Water will monitor the system during the day.

Waterval and Quellerina towers
Pumping resumed on Wednesday night after the power was restored in the area. Both towers are supplying normally.

Alexander Park reservoir
Although the reservoir levels are low, the system is supplying normally. Johannesburg Water will monitor the system throughout the day.

Berea reservoir
Levels improved overnight due to the mitigation strategy of throttling, and it is supplying normally.

Alternative water supply has been arranged for the affected areas.

Residents are requested to observe level-1 water restrictions which are implemented
from 1 September to 31 March. These restrictions prohibit the use of hosepipes to
water gardens, wash cars, clean driveways, as well as fill up swimming pools and
water features between 06:00 and 18:00. Instead, the use of greywater is encouraged.
This is to ensure that systems are kept stable throughout the coming months. We urge
residents to report any form of vandalism and theft of water infrastructure to 0800 00
25 87.
