Commando System update
Johannesburg Water continues to monitor the Commando System levels as it remains low due to poor supply. Necessary interventions are implemented to boost the supply, equitable distribution and maintain the systemâs stability.
â˘Crosby Reservoir: The overall capacity of the reservoir is critically low, and poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.
â˘Brixton Reservoir and Tower: The reservoir levels improved after the overnight closure, but the system is constrained, and poor pressure is expected in high-lying areas. The Brixton Tower is supplying normally but will be affected by reservoir levels.
â˘Hursthill 1 and 2 Reservoirs: Hursthill 1 continues to be on bypass, and poor pressure to no water can be expected in the supply zone. Reconfiguration is in place to boost supply and provide relief to customers. Hursthill 2 remains critically low at 10%. Slight gains were made overnight, but the system is constrained and poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.
Johannesburg Water continues to monitor the recovery of the systems while providing alternative water supply to the affected areas.

Johannesburg Waterâs TID Project to roll out in Cosmo City
Johannesburg Water will be rolling out phase one of its token identifier (TID) Rollover Project in Cosmo City on Monday, 22 July 2024.
The TID Rollover programme is a prepaid metering system undertaking to ensure that all prepaid meters that will roll over to a new TID code on 24 November 2024, are correctly recoded.
All prepayment meters based on STS Technology will stop accepting new credit tokens because of the expiry of these vending codes (Key Revision Number). TID is a unique token identifier that is coded into the token that you purchase from any vending point or outlet. The TID is referenced to a base date of 1993 and will run out of range in November 2024, thus causing the prepayment meter to stop accepting new tokens. If your meter has not been recoded, it will not accept the tokens you have purchased, which means it will stop working. All prepaid meters must be recoded from KRN 1 to KRN2.
From Monday, 22 July 2024, Cosmo City prepaid customers will be able to convert to a new TID code. When customers buy water meter credit, a Key Change Token will be generated on the vending system and will have to be physically entered into the meter. The system will issue three 20-digit tokens: the first two tokens will be for the key change/upgrade, and the third token will be the actual recharge voucher. After this process, the TID code will automatically be upgraded.
Prepaid customers are urged to comply and recode their meters before 24 November. It’s crucial to remember that, following the deadline in November, users won’t be able to top up their units without the upgrade.
Please note: all tokens/vouchers purchased before the conversion, must be loaded before the upgrade to KRN2. Furthermore, existing credit on the meter will not be affected by the rollover.

Systems Update
With the completion of the second phase of the Rand Water Palmiet Pump Station maintenance, pumping is at full capacity. Johannesburg Water continues to monitor the systems and is implementing further interventions to facilitate the recovery process and ensure equitable distribution.
The following systems are improving but affected by intermittent supply.
South Hills Tower is empty and affected by the intermittent supply. JW continues to monitor the situation.
Alexander Park Reservoir is critically low and a combination of poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone. Outlet will be closed overnight to build capacity.
Linksfield Reservoir is critically low to empty. Improvement is expected in few days. A combination of poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.
Randjieslaagte Reservoir has improved but remains low. The system is supplying fairly, however, poor supply may occur in high lying areas.
The Sandton Reservoirs have improved overnight and supplying normally. Sandton supply has been closed at 19:00 to allow shifting and will be opened at 04:00. This intervention is implemented to boost other JW affected systems within the Palmiet system.
The Linbro and Marlboro direct feeds are supplying normally, however, will be affected by overnight closure of the Sandton supply. No water is expected overnight, and the system will gradually improve in the morning (Friday morning, 19 July 2024).
Sandton reservoirs will experience a combination of poor pressure to no water overnight, while the Sandton supply is closed. Restoration of the Sandton supply will occur in the morning and systems will gradually improve to a normal supply.
Most Midrand Reservoirs are improving while some are stable and supplying normally. Intermittent supply is expected while systems are still recovering.
The following Midrand systems are affected;
Rabie Ridge reservoir and tower, the reservoir has improved overnight and supplying normally. The tower is on bypass and experiencing a combination of poor pressure to no water.
President Park Reservoir and Tower.
The reservoir remains low but improving, while the tower is on bypass. A combination of poor pressure to no water is expected in both supply zones. Improvement of the system is expected in the next few days.
Alternative water continues to be supplied to the areas affected.
Areas fed by Palmiet.

Commando system update
The Commando system continues to have a low overall capacity because of inadequate supply. The monitoring and implementation of necessary interventions is being carried out by Johannesburg Water.
Crosby Reservoir: The overall capacity of the reservoir is stable but low and supplying fairly. The system is supplying fairly.
Brixton Reservoir and Tower: The reservoir levels have declined and is critically low. The outlet will be closed overnight to build capacity and open in the morning. No water is expected in the supply zone overnight.
Brixton Tower is declining but supplying normally. It is affected by reservoir low levels. A combination of poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.
Hursthill 1 and 2 Reservoirs:
Hursthill 1 continues to be on bypass, and poor pressure to no water can be expected in the supply zone. Reconfiguration is in place to boost supply and provide relief to customers.
Hursthill 2 remains critically low at 11%. Outlet will be closed overnight to build capacity. No water is expected in the supply zone overnight.
Alternative water supply is being conducted for the affected areas.

Systems Update
Progress on phase two of Rand Water Palmiet Pump Station maintenance (15 – 17 July 2024 for 50 hours)
The second phase of the maintenance of Rand Waterâs Palmiet Pump Station has been completed, and the systems are being charged. It is anticipated that Rand Water will start pumping after midday and back to full load by this afternoon. However, it will take several days for Johannesburg Water systems to fully recover.
Most Johannesburg Water systems have declined but supplying fairly, while some are critically low to empty. As a result, a combination of poor pressure to no water is expected.
The following systems are affected:
South Hills Tower is currently empty due to low levels at the supplying reservoir. No water is expected in the supply zone.
Alexander Park Reservoir is empty due to poor supply from the reservoir. No water is expected in the supply zone. The outlet will be closed overnight to build capacity.
Linksfield Reservoir is empty, and no water is expected in the supply zone.
Randjieslaagte Reservoir is critically low. Poor pressure is expected in certain parts, particularly high-lying areas.
Sandton systems
The Sandton reservoirs are stable and are supplying fairly.
The Linbro and Marlboro direct feeds are supplying normally, however, intermittent supply is expected.
Midrand systems
Some Midrand reservoirs are stable, while others are empty.
The Rabie Ridge and President Park reservoirs are critically low. A combination of poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zones of the reservoirs.
Johannesburg Water is monitoring the decline of the systems supplied from Palmiet and will implement necessary interventions as and when required.
Alternative water supply has been arranged and will be placed at strategic points within the residential areas.
