Systems Update
Rand Water Maintenance: Palmiet Pump Station update
The Palmiet Pump Station has been operating at full capacity (100%) since the completion of the first phase of the maintenance project (part 1 of 3) on 1 July 2024. Phase two of the maintenance is scheduled to take place from 15 – 17 July 2024 and will last for 50 hours. Pumping pressure will be reduced to 68%.
Most systems supplied from the station have since improved or recovered, except the following:
South Hills Tower
Pumping resumed yesterday evening and the tower is supplying normally.
Alexander Park Reservoir
The reservoir made a slight improvement overnight and supplying fairly. The reservoir levels remain low due to supplying reservoir still on recovery. The reservoir levels are expected to gradually improve on daily basis while the supplying reservoir is also improving.
Sandton Systems
Sandton supply was closed overnight and opened this morning at 04:00.
Direct feeds have since recovered and supplying normal.
Bryanston reservoir and tower, both systems are stable and supplying normal.
Linbro Park, Marlboro and Morningside Reservoirs, levels have declined but all reservoirs are stable and supplying fairly.
Illovo Reservoir and Tower, reservoir levels are currently declining. Poor pressure is expected in the supply zone while the reservoir levels are low. The reservoir is expected to improve overnight. While the tower levels are normal and supplying fairly.
Johannesburg Water will continue to provide updates and monitor all systems.

Rand Water Maintenance: Eikenhof Pump Station
Maintenance at the Eikenhof Pump Station continues according to the planned schedule until 12 July 2024. Currently, pumping has been increased to approximately 92% to assist with recovery. While the majority of Johannesburg Water systems have recovered, some are affected by poor incoming supply and high demand that exceed the available capacity.
Commando system
There is not enough supply to meet the demand, which is putting strain on the system. Reconfigurations are in progress for equitable distribution of available capacity.
Crosby Reservoir
The reservoir was critically low this morning, poor pressure is expected in high-lying areas of the supply zone. Pumping to the Brixton Reservoir continues between 50% and 70%, depending on available inflows.
Brixton Reservoir and Tower
The reservoir is 37% this morning and is declining but supplying fairly. The outlet will be closed overnight to build capacity. While the Brixton Tower is supplying normally, it will be affected by reservoir levels.
Hursthill 1 and 2 Reservoirs
Both Reservoirs experienced a decline due to poor supply and remain low. Currently, both reservoirs are constrained and poor pressure is expected in high-lying areas, to some extent no water may be experienced.
As part of interventions, the Hursthill 1 Reservoir has been reconfigured to boost supply, while the outlet of Hursthill 2 Reservoir will be closed overnight. Other system specific interventions are implemented on an ongoing basis to respond to varying supply, current demand and reservoir levels.
Randburg and Rooderport systems are supplying normally.
Soweto systems are supplying fairly, however, Doornkop West Reservoir remains low and poor pressure may occur in high-lying areas of the supply zone.
Johannesburg Water will closely monitor all systems and continue to provide alternative water supply to systems affected customers.

Systems Update
Rand Water Maintenance: Palmiet Pump Station update
After the successful completion of phase one (part 1 of 3) of the maintenance, the Palmiet Pump Station is operating at 100% capacity. The majority of the Johannesburg Water systems, including direct feeds, that were impacted by this maintenance have stabilised and are now operating normally.
However, the South Hills Tower and Alexander Park Reservoir are still in the process of recovery, and intermittent supply may be experienced during this period.
South Hills Tower
The tower is currently empty due to poor supply. Pumping will resume as soon supply improves, Johannesburg Water is monitoring recovery of supplying reservoir which is critical low. Intermittent supply is expected to the supply zone.
Alexander Park Reservoir
The reservoir was closed overnight to build capacity. Water levels this morning are at 36% and are currently declining due to poor supply and high demand. Poor pressure is expected in high-lying areas of the supply zone. The outlet will be closed overnight to build capacity.
Johannesburg Water continues to monitor all systems and provide alternative water supply to affected customers.

The Hursthill 1 and 2 Reservoirs experienced improvement overnight but remain low. Currently, both reservoirs are supplying fairly but experiencing high demand. Poor pressure is expected in high-lying areas, to some extent no water maybe experienced.
As part of interventions, the Hursthill 1 Reservoir has been reconfigured to boost supply, while the outlet of Hursthill 2 Reservoir improved overnight. Hursthill 2 has also been reconfigured to augment supply and is supplying fairly.
Randburg systems
All systems have improved and supplying fairly. Intermittent supply is still expected as the maintenance programme continues. Pumping to the Waterval and Quellerina towers commenced this morning, and both are supplying fairly. However, intermittent supply is still expected as the supplying reservoir is still low.
Johannesburg Water will closely monitor all systems and continue to provide alternative water supply to systems affected customers.
