Systems update

In recent weeks, Johannesburg Water has faced water supply disruptions. However, there are signs of improvement in our systems. Our dedicated technicians are diligently working to reconfigure the systems to boost supply.

Sandton System
The systems will be closed to boost capacity in the overall storage, and the systems of Johannesburg Water. The following reservoirs will be throttled overnight:
• Linbro Park reservoir
• Morningside reservoir
• Malboro reservoir
• Illovo reservoir
• Bryanston reservoir

The two direct feeds will be impacted by no water overnight:
• Linbro and Malboro

Johannesburg Central reservoir
Pumping will be reduced overnight for Yeoville and Foresthill to boost overall capacity of Johannesburg Water system. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.
Berea and Alexander Park reservoir
Both reservoirs are constraint and improvements are expected overnight.

Commando System
Currently, the system is under constraint and Johannesburg Water has placed interventions in place to boost supply and monitor improvement.
Deep South Region
• Orange Farm, Ennerdale and Lawley reservoirs – all reservoirs are critically low due to high demand. Poor pressure to no water can be expected in the supply zone.
• Lenasia Hospital Hill and Lenasia High Level reservoirs – both reservoir levels are critically low and supplying fairly. However, poor pressure to no water is expected due to high demand

Roodepoort System
As a measure of intervention, Johannesburg Water will curtail certain components within the Roodepoort system to boost the overall capacity of Johannesburg Water. Subsequently, poor pressure is expected in the Roodepoort area.
Soweto System
As part of the intervention Johannesburg Water will curtail some of the Soweto system to boost the overall capacity of Johannesburg Water. Poor pressure to no water is expected in some parts of Soweto while the interventions are in place.
Randburg System
Linden1, Linden 2 and Kensington B reservoir – supply has improved, and the reservoir has been supplying fairly throughout the day. However, levels are still low and poor pressure can still be expected in the supply zone.
The following systems are not yet at acceptable levels of recovery:
• Blairgowrie reservoir
• Linden 1 reservoir
• Kensington B tower
Johannesburg Water has been reconfiguring the network as part of their intervention to bring relief to the constraint systems and boost supply of the systems that have not yet been restored.
Johannesburg Water continues to monitor all affected systems. Outlets of the critically low reservoirs will be throttled overnight to build capacity for the next day.
Alternative water supply is currently provided to affected areas.

Systems Update

Soweto System

Most reservoirs affected by the Eikenhof power outage have recovered and are supplying fairly to normally. However, the Protea Glen and Zondi systems are all still affected by high demand.

Waterval & White Ridge System (Randburg/Rooderpoort)

Some of the reservoirs in this system are supplying fairly to normal. However, the Linden 1, Linden 2 and Blairgowrie systems remain critically low to empty following the Eikenhof power outage. The Kensington B reservoir is on a recovery trajectory and we anticipate it will take a couple of days to show significant improvements.

Sandton System

The system has recovered and continues to supply normally. The  Bryanston tower is currently supplying normally however remains low due to high demand.  

Central Region

• Berea reservoir: currently critically low due to high demand. Poor pressure is expected in certain parts of the supply zone.
• Alexandra Park reservoir: capacity levels have improved, and the system is now supplying normally. However, the demand on the system is high, which may impact capacity.

Commando System

• Crosby reservoir: the reservoir levels remain low; however, it is supplying fairly. Poor pressure can still be expected in certain parts of the reservoir zone.
• Hursthill 1 and 2: There are slight improvements on Hursthill 2, however both reservoirs remain critically low. Poor pressure can still be expected in certain parts.
• Brixton reservoir and tower: both the reservoir and tower continue to improve and are supplying normally.

Deep South Region

• Orange Farm, Ennerdale, and Lawley reservoirs – all reservoirs improved overnight but remain low due to high demand. Poor pressure to no water can be expected in the supply zone.
• Lenasia Hospital Hill and Lenasia High Level reservoirs – all reservoirs improved overnight and are supplying fairly. Poor pressure can be expected in the supply zone.

Johannesburg Water continues to monitor all affected systems. Outlets of the critically low reservoirs will be throttled overnight to build capacity for the next day.

Alternative water supply is currently provided to affected areas.

The system has recovered and continues to supply normally. Only the Bryanston tower is currently critically low as pumping was impacted by an area outage.
