 Systems Update: Progress on systems affected by the City Power outage at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station

Johannesburg Water systems continue recovering, although complete recovery is projected to take at least days to a week.

Central System supplied by Eikenhof pump station

• Crosby reservoir has improved but remains low and supplying fairly. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone. 
• Brixton reservoir has improved but remains low . Pumping has resumed, and the tower is gradually recovering. Poor pressure to no water can be expected in the supply zone.
• Hursthill 1 & 2 reservoirs are both critically low. Improvement remains low in the system, poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone. Hursthill 1 is being reconfigured to boost supply. 
• Crown Gardens reservoir and towers are critically low. The reservoir outlet will be throttled to assist in recovery. Pumping will resume as soon as the reservoir has recovered. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the reservoir zone. 
• Eagles Nest reservoir is critically low, supplying fairly to Alan Manor and Naturena reservoirs. Poor pressure is expected in the supply zone while the system is recovering.  
• Aeroton reservoir and tower are supplying fairly, however, poor pressure is still expected in the supply zone.
• Berea reservoir (supplied from Zwartkopies) it is critical low due to high demand and poor supply pressure. Poor pressure to no water can be expected in the supply zone.

Soweto system by supplied Eikenhof pump station

• Chiawelo reservoir, Doornkop West reservoir, Power Park reservoir, Jabulani reservoir and Diepkloof reservoir, Orlando East and Meadowlands have improved and supplying fairly; however, poor pressure may still be expected in the supply zone. 
• Zondi reservoir & tower, Braamfischer reservoir and Protea Glen reservoir are currently low but supplying fairly. Poor pressure to no water may be experienced in certain parts of the supply zone.

Randburg and Roodepoort system supplied by Eikenhof pump station

• Linden 1 reservoir & tower, Linden 2 reservoir and Blairgowrie reservoir are critically low. Poor pressure to no water may still be expected in the supply zone. Recovery is slow due high demand and reduced incoming flows as the system is still recovering.Linden 1 system may take longer to improve due to system configuration. 
• Honeydew reservoir & tower and Olivedale reservoir: The reservoir has improved and supplying fairly, while Olivedale reservoir is still recovering. All systems have improved and supplying fairly.
•       Cosmo City and Boschkop reservoirs have improved and supplying fairly, while Randpark Ridge reservoir is empty. Poor pressure may be expected in the supply zone.
• Robertsville reservoir, Fairlands reservoir and Corriemoor reservoir are low but supplying fairly.
• Kensington-B reservoir and tower have improved and supplying fairly. 
• Helderkruin reservoir has improved while the tower is critically low. Pumping will resume as soon as the reservoir improved Poor pressure to no water to be expected in the supply zone.
• Witpoortjie reservoir has improved and supplying fairly while the tower is critically low. Poor pressure to no water may be expected in the supply zone. 
• Constantia tower, Horizon tower, Waterval tower and Quellerina tower are critically low. While Florida North tower has slightly improved. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.
• Quellerina tower and Waterval tower are both empty. No water is expected in the supply zone. Pumping will resume as soon as Waterval system recovers. 

Sandton system supplied by Palmiet pump station

• Bryanston reservoir is low but improving while pumping has resume and tower is improving. Poor pressure is expected in high-lying areas. 
• Illovo reservoir is critically low, while the tower is empty. The reservoir remains throttled to assist in recovery. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone. 
• Linbro Park, Marlbor and Morningside reservoirs are critically low. Poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.
• Marlbor reservoir has improved and supplying fairly including the two direct feeds (Linbro and Marlbor direct feeds)

The bulk supplier’s systems are interconnected and are flexible to augment (support) one another, which assist in the recovery of all systems. Johannesburg Water will prioritise the prompt isolation of bursts and leaks and the repair thereof. Customers are requested to repair leaks on their properties as these also contribute to the high demand on Johannesburg Water systems. Residents are requested to observe level-1 water restrictions which are implemented from 1 September to 31 March. These restrictions prohibit the use of hosepipes to water gardens, wash cars, clean driveways, as well as fill up swimming pools and water features between 06:00 and 18:00. Instead, the use of greywater is encouraged.

Systems Update

Commando System
Hursthill 1 has been reconfigured to increase supply, placing constraints on the system. Hursthill 2 Reservoir has improved over night and is now supplying as usual; nevertheless, the levels will rapidly drop because of heavy demand and system constraints. Poor water pressure and no water during the evening peak are possible in high-lying locations. There will be alternate water sources accessible for high-lying regions.
Affected areas: Hursthill, Crosby, Auckland Park, Jan Hofmeyer, Vredepark, Vrededorp. Sophiatown, Corronationville, Westdene.

Sandton System
The system is supplying normally. While the Illovo and Bryanston Towers remain impacted by load shedding and extended power outages. As planned, the Sandton supply will be isolated for the night. To maintain capacity, all reservoir outflows will be throttled by around 80% during the night. While the system is separated, low pressure in the supply zone is possible.

Berea reservoir
Berea reservoir remains stable but still under pressure to high demand. Poor pressure to can be expected in high-lying areas of the supply zone.
Affected areas: Bertrams, Lorentville, Judith Paarl, Bruma, Bezuitenhout Valley, De Wetshof, Cyreledene.

Power Park reservoir
The Power Park reservoir recovered overnight but remains low. High-lying areas might experience low pressure no water as the system continues to recover.
Affected areas: Eldorado Park and extensions, Eldorado Park Estate, Nancefield Industrial, Nancefield Hostel, Klipspruit and extensions, Klipspruit West, and extensions, all Pimville zones and extensions, Klipriviersoog, Klipriviersoog Estate.

President Park reservoir
Improved remains stable and improved overnight supplying normal however due to high demand the supply will be throttled overnight to retain capacity. Poor pressure to no water can be expected in the supply zone overnight while the system is throttled.
Affected areas: /johannesburg-water-reservoirs-3/

The following reservoirs will either be closed or throttled to 90% overnight (between 20:00 and 04:00) to retain water and build capacity for the next day:
• Soweto: Doornkop West and Naturena
• Commando: Brixton and Hursthill 2
• Deep South: Orange Farm reservoir 2, Lenasia high-level, Lenasia Hospital Hill, Lawley
• President Park reservoir

Customers supplied by these reservoirs may experience poor pressure to no flow. Alternative water supply has been arranged through water tankers for the affected areas. Johannesburg Water continues to monitor the above systems.
Customers are requested to repair leaks on their properties as these also contribute to the high demand on Johannesburg Water systems.
